PRINCEVILLE — Ties were the highlight of the day on Saturday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation golf match contested at the North Shore Preserve, according to Paul Ito, who provides the game scores for the KIF golf.

“A big mahalo to the membership and staff at the North Shore Preserve for having the kids out for a match on Saturday,” Ito said. “It was a beautiful sunny day in Princeville, the course was in awesome condition, the views were amazing, but the comfort stations were definitely the highlight of the day for most of the kids.”

Stalemates developed in the top spots for low scores in both the Boys and Girls divisions as well as for second place in the Boys Team competition.

“Graham Morgan of Kapaa High School continued his strong play this season, tying Island School’s Garrett Hadley for low round of the day with 78s,” Ito said. “The Kapaa Boys Team continues to play solid golf and were winners again this week with a team total of 340. Kauai High and Island School tied for second place with both teams coming in at 356.”

Third place for the Boys Individualists belonged to Koy Tsukayama of Waimea High School who finished with an 81, three strokes off the pace.

“On the girls side, it was a tight race between Kapaa and Kauai High with Kapaa High’s Juliette O’Shaughnessey and Kauai High’s Amalia Abigania tying for low round, both girls firing 87s,” Ito said. “Sydney Ito was third with a 95, but the Kapaa girls were able to secure the win with a team total of 297, six strokes better than Kauai High.”

The Red Raider girls finished at 303 followed by the Waimea High School girls who finished with a 395.

The next KIF golf match will take place on Saturday at Kukuiula. The first groups tee off at noon.
