Flag football moves to Kapaa on Thursday

HANAPEPE — The Kauai Interscholastic Federation girls flag football moves to the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Park stadium Thursday with four games on tap starting at 4 p.m.
The outing in Kapaa will allow the Kauai High School Red Raiders an opportunity to redeem the 19-18 heartbreaking loss the Raiders suffered at the hands of Waimea last week. The Kapaa games will also allow Island School a chance to come back against Kapaa High School who beat them in a 20-19 thriller.
The rematch against the two league leaders is scheduled to kick off starting at 6:30 p.m.
During last week’s games at Hanapepe Stadium, Waimea High School picked up two wins — 19-18 over Kauai High School and 21-7 over Kapaa High School. Kapaa split its outing to Hanapepe after picking up a 20-19 thriller over Island School. Kauai High School also split its Hanapepe trip by taking a 31-13 win over Island School.
In the Kauai and Waimea opener last week, Menehune Cayden Aranio and Kyla Malama made the difference for the Waimea blueshirts. Malama caught a Point After Touchdown pass from quarterback Christian Wailana Tanigawa to break a 12-12 deadlock in the second quarter. Malama also intercepted a Red Raider pass in the final five ticks of the third quarter.
Aranio pulled in two Wailana Tanigawa touchdown tosses in the third quarter.
Kauai opened the afternoon in its second possession when quarterback Naomi Ikimaka found Kiannah Racca in the end zone. Kiannah opened the second quarter by pulling in another Ikimaka touchdown pass.
Waimea knotted the game at 12-12 when Wailana Tanigawa found Aranio in the end zone for the first of two Aranio scores. A pass to Malama for the PAT broke the deadlock and proved to be the game winner when Ikimaka found Keira Caoagas in the end zone with 4:54 showing on the game clock.
Thursday game at the BJB stadium will open when Kauai faces Kapaa at 4 p.m., followed by Waimea taking on Island School starting at 5:15 p.m. Kauai will meet Waimea starting at 6:30 p.m., and Kapaa will close the night against Island School starting at 7:45 p.m.
