Raiders, Warriors win Kauai Interscholastic Federation boys Friday hoops



LIHUE — Kauai High School and Kapaa High School boys basketball picked up wins on Friday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation second round continued play at the Clem Gomes Gym and the Wilcox Gymnasium.
The Red Raiders posted a 59-41 victory over Island School, the Kapaa High School boys basketball teams split at the Clem Gomes. The Junior Varsity Menehune posted a 51-37 win over the JV Warriors before the varsity Warriors rolled to a 65-42 win over Waimea.
The JV Menehune balanced its scoring attack with Xyrus Baja leading the charge on 10 points. Xaidyn Buyat followed with nine points, including a trio of treys, and Daniel Oligo finished with seven points.
King Pitts had high score honors for the JV Warriors with eight points followed by Takazee Thomas with seven points, and Maki Tuulengavalu with six points.
On the varsity floor, Kapaa’s Austin Green was on fire, finishing with a game-high 34 points, including six threeballs. Emry Piturachsatit added 11 points, including a trio of treys, and AJ Johnson finished with 10 points.
Mar Ruiz and Daniel Kaohelaulii-Kali each knocked in eight points and Jaydon Moises finished with seven points in the effort.
Over at the Wilcox Gymnasium, Kauai’s Camren Holt-Ho got the go-to call and finished with a game-high 26 points, including a perfect eight-for-eight at the charity stripe.
Marcus Merrick finished with 12 points, and Reese Jenking ended with nine marks, including a trey in the third quarter.
Island School’s Lucas Summerhays is back on the hardwoods following an earlier in the season mishap that saw the versatile Voyager sidelined. He came into Friday night’s skirmish with 16 points to lead the Island School effort.
Piko Vaughn finished with all seven points dropping in the second quarter, including a trey, and Rocco Sand ended with six points.
Boys basketball next plays on Tuesday when Kauai faces the Warriors at the Bernice Hundley Gym, and the Voyagers take on the Menehune at the Clem Gomes Gym.
There will be a JV game tipping off from 5:30 p.m. at the Bernice Hundley Gym. The varsity contest follows 20 minutes after the JV game ends. There will be a single contest at the Clem Gomes Gym starting at 6:30 p.m.
