The healing power of horses

WAILUA — In 1803 the first horse made its appearance on Kauai and was presented as a gift to King Kamehameha I. Two hundred and twenty-one years later, horses on Kauai continue to be a big part of the community and have become exceptional therapy animals.

Tiger shark spotted in Haena

HAENA — A no swimming and ocean activities advisory was issued for Haena Beach Park and Makua Beach area after a tiger shark was spotted in the water off Haena on Monday afternoon.

ISLAND HISTORY: The mysterious Malae Heiau at Wailua, Kauai

In 1824, Kaahumanu (1768-1832) ordered the destruction of all vestiges of the old Hawaiian religion on Kauai by burning wooden idols and tearing down heiau, including Kauai’s largest heiau, Malae Heiau, located near the mouth of the Wailua River.
