Did you ever see one of those squishies (can it double as a stress ball?) that you throw in the freezer and put it on your head to keep you cool (yep, we still got them high temperatures)?

Kudos to Pam Arroyo and the Regency at Puakea ohana on hosting the little craft fair (love the change of hours to allow working people to take in the festivities) in observance of National Assisted Living Week. Janice Bond was there early to check out vendors (she’s got up to 50 spaces) for the East Kauai Lions Club Spaghetti luncheon Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihue.

Eunice Burgonio (she was ‘the Greeter’ at the Lihue United Church of Christ’s Labor Day Breakfast!) said the Regency at Puakea (she’s almost like the ‘Fun Giver’ as the Activities Coordinator) is hosting a craft fair, Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the evening hours in observance of National Assisted Living Week.

Even people from Boston can talk Pidgin, said Camille Pakchong of Rainbow Roots (those assorted radishes sure looked appealing) at the GoFarm Hawaii tent that made a one-day-only appearance in the space normally occupied by the Master Gardeners at the Kauai Community Market at Kauai Community College in Puhi Saturday.

Duquesa Padamada of the state Department of Health was getting her arm twisted about becoming the newest Kauai Lions Club member — yes, they had a table at the fair, too — and Rebecca Carnate (remember her from Rebecca’s Kitchen during the recent Kauai Independent Food Bank’s Dine Out for Hunger?) was with Janice Bond (she recruited Rebecca to the East Kauai Lions, and mahalo for the Cop on Top headwear that goes perfect for the Special Olympics bowling coming up Oct. 5 and 6), checking out the 60 vendors because of her nursing background.
Happy Camper for Friday, September 6, 2019
Anna Baudouin is planning on getting over to PhotoCon (didn’t Todd Fuerte go last year?). Anna is on the “short list” of The Essence of People in Hawaii contest, and had to wait until today when the winners are named. She said her choice of speakers is on the last day in the last workshop, when Jon Lorentz talks on sports photography.

After all those days (and weeks) of no-rain, where did the Sunday rains come from, Tony Ricci of the Garden Isle Racing Association wanted to know. The afternoon showers that blew down from Koke‘e only briefly interrupted the two-day event that was dedicated to the late Gary Saiki through the Gary Saiki shoot out.

Congratulations to Coach Teddy Arroyo and his Kauai Pop Warner Football League ohana on launching its 58th year of tackle football and cheer for Kauai’s young scholar-athletes Saturday during the annual Jamboree, where Kelvin Moniz (he was officiating at the Friday night Kauai Interscholastic Federation football game, too!) and Harvette Acosta were recognized for their numerous years of service with volunteer awards.

Yes, the OC16 crews had time for Hamura Saimin (and pies before the plane left?) before the Friday night Kauai Interscholastic Federation football opener at Vidinha Stadium, where county Parks & Recreation Department Director Patrick Porter could breathe easier because no geckos perished in the light boxes to cause blackouts.

Phil (aka Santa in Paradise) Worwa is ready to dance the night away when The Shops at Kukuiula continues its 10th anniversary celebration with its Flavors of Kukuiula that start with John Rivera and the Greenstone Project today from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m….hm-m, wonder if Louise Lumague will stay over for this.

(Vincent) van Gogh must have started like this, said Darlene Porter of California as she showed off her “Abstract Art” creation done with rice and an assortment of pickled vegetables (don’t eat the whole ume at once!) at the sushi-making station during the Pilgrimage of Compassion at the Lawai International Center.
Happy Camper for Monday, August 26, 2019
Tony Giarla and Tina Albao coordinated a great volleyball clinic Saturday on Kalapaki Beach. The event was for Boys & Girls Club people, but Lea Nuesca said there were a lot of other people. Jim Braman was thrilled when the B&G Club picked up about two dozen new members after learning about the program during the clinic.

Ron Wood of FM97 (Ron Wiley of KQNG said he couldn’t believe how loud everything was) had to literally eat and run during the Kauai Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours at the Gather Federal Credit Union Kukui Grove West branch Thursday because he was emcee-ing the Women In Theatre shindig (it ends today!), so he missed the excitement when Janice Akiyama (mahalo for the Kokoro scones — they’re just the right size!) ended up winning the staycation at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa (did you go to their bon dance, Friday night? It was their first!).
Happy Camper for Friday, August 23, 2019
Football season is here! Coach Bill Arakaki and his wife, Coach Blanche Arakaki, were enjoying football under the lights (enjoy it while you can fledging season starts Sept. 15!) when Waimea High School hosted the Honokaa Dragons (Coach Bill said he and Honokaa coach Fred Lau are classmates from Aiea High School) at Hanapepe Stadium.
Happy Camper for Wednesday, August 21, 2019
Page 54 of the Alaska Airlines inflight periodical held the answer for Kelly Culliney who won the Alaska Airlines vacation photo contest during the Kauai County Farm Bureau Fair (kudos to Johnny Gordines and ALL (!!!) the Kauai County Farm Bureau ‘ohana who pitched in to make the event a success!).
Happy Camper for Monday, August 19, 2019
Happy birthday, Ken Suenaga of Pearl City Aquatics, who celebrated his special day with his team parents and swimmers at the Mokihana Aquatics Fun Meet (kudos, Mokihana Aquatics Coach Orlando “O” Anaya and all of his volunteers on a great meet!) at the Kapaa Pool.
Happy Camper for Sunday, August 18, 2019
Randy Yokoyama was bummed he would miss the Kauai County Farm Bureau Fair because he was heading to the mainland to get his son settled in college.
Happy Camper for Friday, August 16, 2019
Yes, the purple flamingos light up, said Sharron Weber of Tire Warehouse (watch for their big anniversary soon!) of the birds (remember when talk was about New Zealand cows?) fronting the Rice Street construction at “the place between work and home.”
Happy Camper for Wednesday, August 14, 2019
Sarah Thompson said there will be some watermelons (and popcorn!) at Sen. Ron Kouchi’s booth when the Kauai County Farm Bureau opens Thursday evening starting at 6 p.m. — the signboard at the Elsie Wilcox Elementary School said there is no school Friday!
Happy Camper for Monday, August 12, 2019
Kudos to Charlene Dorsey of the Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the army of volunteers and leaders (Elsie Bayot and Lovelyn Yadao are the Josie Pablo [she said she was less than 200 percent] “wonder women”) who brought the final bon dance of 2019 to life Friday on the KVMH front lawn.
