Happy birthday, Fran Roach and Deborah Dama, who spent their special day helping distribute nearly 200 turkeys to Boys & Girls Club member families with Kelvin Moniz of the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank.

Happy Camper for Friday, November 6, 2020

Mike and Dawn Taylor of San Diego (Escondido, to be more precise) did not let COVID-19 stop them from visiting Kaua‘i, overcoming the travel and health safety measures to get to the North Shore.

Happy Camper for Wednesday, November 4, 2020

Whoa! Monday is pretty crowded at the Kukui Grove Center food court, as everyone comes out following the weekend. Bernard Apana was catching up with Tommy Rita (everything is “low key” and “off the record”), and Ms. Apana ducked out because she was too shy.

Halloween was far more than trick-or-treating as Brother Ramzy Salvador and the Iglesia Ni Cristo church ‘ohana hosted an Aid to Humanity Day (Dr. Addison Bulosan and Miss Kaua‘i Filipina Tiffany Sagucio went to help) food distribution Saturday morning at the Kalaheo church.

Mahalo, Chantal Zarbaugh, for that fancy Kaua‘i Lifeguard Association coffee cup. It comes right when someone said I needed a new one, and the TGI Dennis cap from Janice Bond came in handy on hallow’s eve for Sabrina Bodon.

Tommy Rita (he got too excited for their Monday morning coffee at the Kukui Grove Center food court…nice conversation about the Patriots) was lucky Eric Rita (he’s waiting for basketball to start up again) was cruising the parking lot and found the keys.

Did Michelle Lemi (she’s a Kaua‘i football official) make it to Kaumakani on time (she must’ve because when Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League games play, the first games are always early) for the second football officials and Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank distribution (next one is Thursday afternoon at The Shops at Kukui‘ula) at the Aloha Sweet Delites — great half moons — parking lot.

Kudos to Sandi Kato-Klutke (Laurie Yoshida and Stephanie Iona couldn’t make it, but were in Kekaha last Saturday), Stacie Chiba-Miguel (she could even make her Zoom meeting after unloading all those pumpkins from Esaki’s Produce.

How did Sabrina Bodon’s dad know to pack the secret ingredient to the exploding bon bons (is it still on the menu for Halloween?) being offered by Papalani Gelato during the Harry Potter weekend (this was also the 14th anniversary of the Costco opening, said Phil Worwa).

Happy Camper for Monday, October 19, 2020

Yes, even Santa (aka Phil Worwa — he’s wrapping up his staycation in paradise) has a face mask when he dropped in on the Kama‘aina Days and Orly’s Patisserie (did you see that cake valued at $1,500) Saturday at the Hokulei Village Shopping Center in Puhi.

Happy Camper for Friday, October 16, 2020

Kaua‘i Police Department Chief Todd Raybuck didn’t fool around Tuesday during the Bikes on Rice (it only happens once a month) family ride. He brought his entire ‘ohana, including the two family dogs (great dog carriers made for bicycles). Ashton Varner discovered her VIP bike is a veteran from the Nancy Budd days before she upgraded to a higher level of equipment, and was Dr. Randy Blake one of the group leaders?

Happy Camper for Monday, October 12, 2020

Sharron Weber had Alek Ahana (he got a new Tire Warehouse cap in the deal) as a partner (Kellie Hines told her to let Alek drive) during the Contractors Association of Kaua‘i scholarship tournament that played under COVID-19 rules.

Happy Camper for Sunday, October 11, 2020

Tiffany Sagucio, the reigning Miss Kaua‘i Filipina, and a journalism/communications major at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, is getting a lot of hands-on learning while home because of distance learning.
