Kudos to Samira Siale (she even got husband Tyrus Siale to come and help out) and the Hawai‘i Lodging & Tourism Association Kaua‘i Branch on a sold-out (and then some) golf tournament that enjoyed a sunny shotgun start Saturday at the Hokuala Ocean Course in Lihu‘e.

Kelvin Moniz’s wife missed out Wednesday when Janice Bond, Barbara Gusman and the Sheraton Kaua‘i at Coconut Beach staff orchestrated a small cake and singing of the birthday anthem during the Waipouli property’s employee food distribution.

Happy Camper for Wednesday, January 13, 2021

Gary Elwood of Kaua‘i Community College joined the herd Monday when teachers and educators were given the green light for the COVID-19 vaccine at the point-of-distribution set up at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall.

Bernadette D’Amore was excited about the Beauty Boardroom’s Fun Friday Facials because she planned to get some of Mary Kay facial products she used to use but could not get, anymore.

Mahalo, Alice Parker, for being better than SpellCheck…it’s “jicama,” and she said it’s really good in fruit salad because it’s crispy, and it’s just coming in at Mark Jones’ farm (check out the farmers’ market at The Shops at Kukui‘ula Wednesday afternoons, or the Pau Hana Market Monday at 3 p.m. at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e).

Patrice Pendarvis (the puppies were at home during her gallery-sitting stint) said working with the ripped rice paper (a departure from her watercolor rendering of local lifestyle) is like reverse painting.

Happy Camper for Wednesday, January 6, 2021

Lori Almarza of the Kaua‘i United Way (have you caught the Wave of Compassion yet?) said the Pau Hana Market is really big because Ron Wiley was doing a live broadcast of the farmers’ market (they have value-added stuff, too!), where you had to hear Frank Cruz do his rendition of “Pretty Woman.”

Happy Camper for Monday, January 4, 2021

Macee Martinez was the demonstration of the New Year’s spirit Saturday, as she distributed free floral arrangements created by herself and her aunt to shoppers at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e.

Happy Camper for Sunday, January 3, 2021

Kudos to Dr. Addison Bulosan of the Rice Street Business Association, who coordinated with several local companies (Melissa Ragasa of the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i Branch was trooping Ho‘olako Street to pre-register all those cars that snaked close to Rice Street, and said even the County of Kaua‘i was a sponsor), including Corteva Agriscience, Electricians, Inc., and the Specific Chiropractic Center, to present the sold-out (Dr. Addison said 500 stalls in a socially-distanced parking format similar to the drive-in movies) event that welcomed 2021 in the cold (forgot how cold the wind can get because we haven’t had sports for almost a year now) winds of Vidinha Stadium in Lihu‘e.

Happy Camper for Friday, January 1, 2021

So, who won the bottle of bubbly? Carol Simon of Coldwell Banker at The Shops at Kukui‘ula (they have another office at the Po‘ipu Shopping Village) did a bang-up job finding New Year’s decorations, and topped the greeting by hosting a giveaway for the “bottle of bubbly” during the Wednesday outing of the farmers’ market at The Shops at Kukui‘ula. Who was on New Year’s break?

Happy Camper for Monday, December 28, 2020

Happy birthday, Erika Kleinfeld, who opened the Pacific Fireworks shop on her special day — “I had to take the phone call from my dad,” Erika said between customers at the fireworks outlet that celebrated its 20th anniversary on Kaua‘i, at Hokulei Village Shopping Center in Puhi.

Happy Camper for Friday, December 25, 2020

Merry Christmas, Kaua‘i! Who would have thought a food distribution — the one presented by the Kaua‘i Lifeguard Association and the Kaua‘i team of lifeguards partnering with the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank, Safeway at Hokulei Village, and Rancher’s Daughter’s Reserve — would be as great as Santa in a parade and keiki?

Happy Camper for Monday, December 21, 2020

Santa as Elsa of Disney’s “Frozen” fame? Do they even make dresses in that plus size? There were Santa sightings galore during the final weekend before Christmas rolls in Friday.

Happy Camper for Sunday, December 20, 2020

Kudos to John Ruiz and the Kekaha Landfill crew that hosted the Christmas Drive-Thru Wednesday. Billed as a giveaway of food, veggies and wrapped presents, the event was more of a reverse parade (that’s Dr. Addison Bulosan’s term) as the line of cars snaked along Kaumuali‘i Highway beyond eyesight toward Polihale.

Happy Camper for Friday December 18, 2020

County of Kaua‘i Managing Director Michael Dahilig plays a mean violin (violinist and music teacher Kimberly Hope is hosting YouTube live streams on Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 23 and 24, too), and had a chance to play Christmas music along with fellow county employee Paul Togioka (too bad the banjo wasn’t there for “Jingle Bells”) during the Employees Council’s keiki Christmas, where the Lihu‘e Civic Center’s Mo‘ikeha Building is decked out in flashing floods.

Happy Camper for Wednesday, December 16, 2020

Mele Kalikimaka! Frank Cruz (haven’t seen him since the Back to School Bash) and David Pacanas brought mele to the Pau Hana Market (kudos to David Sosner, Melissa McFerrin-Warrack and Maria Tomas of Kukui Grove Center for contributing to the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank.
