Kudos to Pastor Leighton Cabreira Jr. and the Hearts of War Ship group that has been working hard to get the rooms back of Ho‘omana Thrift Shop cleaned up in time for Na Wai Eha!

Happy Camper for Sunday, September 19, 2021

Mahalo, David Kuraoka (even Bruna Stude, who had David’s pieces on exhibit at the former galerie 103 in Koloa, came out to check him out) for agreeing to be the juror for the Kaua‘i Society of Artists ART Kaua‘i 2021 that opened Saturday at the KSA gallery at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e.

Congratulations, Kawika Lovell-Kuali‘i, Kaina Lovell-Kuali‘i, Debra Kuali‘i and Kori Ann Kuali‘i, and the crew of Aloha Craft Cafe, on opening their doors and counters at the former Lihu‘e Plantation Building (you can’t miss it, it’s the first thing you see when you enter the building next to David Parry’s office!).

Kudos to Donna Lynn Loo, Grace Delos Reyes and Kealoha Takahashi on spearheading that chicken-skin 9/11 Day of Service project, where hundreds of school keiki created cards of greeting, hope and mahalo for all those kupuna residing in the care facilities and presented by the staff (they were honored and thanked as well) of the respective facilities because of the no-contact COVID-19 protocol.

Happy Camper for Wednesday, September 8, 2021

Tina Lafaele, Nomee Leoni, Leka Lafaele and Tee Namoa had the right idea — celebrate Labor Day (how many of us had to work on Labor Day?) after work in the shaded outdoor seating area at Kalapaki Joe’s at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e, where they could check out the traffic to and from the Pau Hana Market (they were working, too).

Happy Camper for Monday, September 6, 2021

Happy birthday, Edie Ignacio Neumiller, whose retirement allowed her to have not one but two special meals on her birthday — the first being lunch with Sheryl Grady at The Plantation House by Gaylords, and the second being a belated happy birthday Maurina Borgatti meal at JO2 with Laurie Ho, Christine Wong and Bev Pang (she made all the lei po‘o). And, happy birthday, too, Sharron Weber of Tire Warehouse, who was probably hard at work somewhere.

Happy Camper for Sunday, September 5, 2021

Congratulations to the Garden Isle Quilters: Julie Fregeau, Jeni Hardy, Lea Ingram, Lesley Morris and Toni Wass (she had a birthday on opening night!), on a great exhibit and sale (this was only their second event in two years) at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e!

OK, so Super Scratchcard distributor Emma got excused on Wednesday so she could audition (no, not for the Hawai‘i Children’s Theater production of “Disney’s Moana Jr.”) for an upcoming film.

Happy Camper for Wednesday, August 25, 2021

People attending the aloha luncheon (Frank Cruz and Cruz Control were pleased that Melissa McFerrin-Warrack had them on stage) for Susie and Randy Yokoyama braved the impacts of the passage of former Tropical Storm Linda Monday at the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e, where Frank Cruz’s banter reminded shoppers of the market protocol: face masks required, social distancing, and no-touch the produce (if you touch, you buy).

Happy Camper for Sunday, August 22, 2021

Kudos to Kalena Pacheco (she’s related to the mayor of Kilauea!) and Dean and Nikol Nonaka, who were inaugural vendors Thursday when the National Tropical Botanical Garden Aloha Market opened its doors to the surge of shoppers at the South Shore Visitors Center in Kukui‘ula.

Happy Camper for Friday, August 20, 2021

“Help is help,” said a kupuna Wednesday during the lunchtime service hours at The Salvation Army Hanapepe Corps, where Lt. Amy Lewis was busy flitting between the thrift store, the outdoor lanai area where lunch diners were enjoying their to-go meals, and even stopping to chat with the Project Vision Hawai‘i Hiehie mobile shower personnel Allen Huber and Darnell Costales.

Happy Camper for Monday, August 16, 2021

Adams Bulosan (he was doing people-counting duty with wife Charlmaine) said things like the Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market can happen even with the new, tighter COVID-19 restrictions.
