The cauliflower at Lin’s Farm (they also vend at the Grove Farm Market at the Puhi open field on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m.!) were beautiful, Wednesday, when the Pop-Up Farmers Market at The Shops at Kuku‘iula opened with that long line of people waiting for the Hole in the Mountain Kaua‘i Sugarloaf Pineapple (yeah, they also vend at the Grove Farm Market … just look for the line before the horn sounds).

Congratulations, David Chaikin (he’s a Dinosaur beach volleyball tournament champion from 1995 and 1996), Fonz Nartatez (he’s a runnerup from the 2021 Dinosaur, where Derek Kessler beat him and Kanoa Nartatez for the title), and all those hands that make the Dinosaur beach volleyball tournament work! Mahalo, Derek and the Duke’s crew, for being a part of the action (they had two courts set up near the downstairs dining area!) during the day hours. Got to watch Merrie Monarch at night.

Kudos to all the organizers who put together a solid weekend of events, ranging from the helicopter egg drop (Happy birthday, Rhonda Ceballo) on Saturday at the Vidinha Stadium soccer fields, to the annual Kaua‘i Buddhist Council Hanamatsuri, or Buddha’s birth, at the Kaua‘i Soto Zen Temple Zenshuji in Hanapepe, which is already looking ahead to its April 22 fundraising concert featuring Kaua‘i-grown Japanese and Okinawa music.
