The flags are up, and Hui Alu is ready for the Kaua‘i Okinawan Festival (this is perfect because it coincides with Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month that is celebrated in May!) that starts Friday (gates open at 5 p.m.) and Saturday at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e.

Edwin Vea of The Beach House said this Sunday (need to take a break Saturday from all those Friday graduations!) is The Beach House Craft Fair from 9 a.m. (Jean Souza likes the early hour so she can shop before needing to be at work) to 1 p.m. on the lawn of The Beach House restaurant in Kukui‘ula.

If you’re lucky, you might get to run into one or more (there were just too many people on Friday when the exhibit opened), of the three artists — Shannon Hiramoto (did we miss Mu‘umu‘u Month?), Samuel Schryver (he said Common Ground in Kilauea has an event coming up, too), or Lora Finelli (great work on the Poem Piece!) — on a visit to the special three-artist exhibit taking place at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e.

Who would’ve thought the “third party internet outage” would’ve had the impact it had on non-fliers. The Moanalua High School boys golf team (and a lot of their supporters) got to spend Friday night stuck at Lihu‘e Airport because there were no hotel rooms to be had after their flight home was canceled, reported Hawai‘i News Now.

Yes, people have to eat rain or shine, Laurie Ho (How did that pigeon get into U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda’s town meeting, anyway?) of the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau on Monday at the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e (the farm bureau is a collaborative partner with Kukui Grove Center and The Shops at Kukui‘ula for the farmers markets), when there were lines at all the vendors (have you seen the ones with the orange stickers for kupuna?) as the weather front passed over Kaua‘i.
