Yes, it’s been another tumultuous season. And, yes, the Lakers will miss the playoffs again despite having one of the best players in the league in house — arguably the best player of this generation. But one of the most marketable franchises in professional sports may have just sunk to new lows.

Registration open for 10th annual Pedal to the Meadow

KEKAHA — Registration is open for the 10th annual Pedal to the Meadow, the bicycle hill climb race on Kauai, to be held May 25. Pedal to the Meadow is the signature event of the Kauai Omnium— three USA Cycling-sanctioned races over two days over Memorial Day weekend. The Mana Time Trial and the “Cycle on the Strip” Criterium on May 26 round out the competition schedule.

Red Raiders hold off Voyagers to win in 3

PUHI — Kauai High School’s varsity boys volleyball team defeated Island School in straight sets Tuesday night at the Wilcox Gymnasium in Puhi. The Red Raiders beat the Voyagers — 25-14, 25-22, 25-10.

Menehune sweep doubleheader at home

HANAPEPE — The Menehune got two wins at home to start the second round of their season. Waimea High School’s varsity baseball team defeated Kauai High School in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader at Hanapepe Stadium under a blue sky with little wind.

24-hour fight against cancer

KILAUEA — A group of local paddlers will be part of a nationwide 24-hour paddle-out in an effort to fight against cancer next weekend. The local group, named Team Kauai 24, is participating in the 2019 Monster and Sea 24-Hour Paddle on Saturday, April 13.

PUHI — The Warriors unbeaten streak is at seven matches. Kapaa High School’s varsity boys volleyball team defeated Island School, 3-0, Tuesday night at the Wilcox Gymnasium on the Island School campus to start the season’s second round.

Honoring past Menehune stars

WAIMEA — The Waimea Menehune Booster Club will host its annual Menehune Legacy Hall of Honor dinner on Saturday at Waimea High School to recognize its 2019 Hall of Honor class. Among this year’s inductees are the members of the school’s 2012 varsity softball team which won the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II softball state championship that year.

KAPAA — The Warriors are unbeaten through six matches. Kapaa High School’s varsity boys volleyball team defeated Waimea High School, 3-0, Friday night at Bernice Hundley Gym in Kapaa to conclude the season’s first round.

About seven months ago, Shana Tafiti returned home to Kauai. The Waimea High School 2008 graduate played collegiate softball at Central Arizona Junior College and then Angelo State University, a NCAA Division II school in Texas.

Kauai’s Ventura named girls soccer POY

As voted for by the coaches, the Kauai Interscholastic Federation girls soccer all-stars have been named. The list was released by the league late Thursday. Kauai High School senior forward Kehela Ventura was named Player of the Year.

Returning to the ring

LIHUE — A couple of pro wrestlers from Kauai will be making their return to the ring this weekend. Noah Gusman, known by ring name “The Kauai Kid” Noa Kaho‘omana, and Isaac Worth, known as Incredible Chris Wilde, will be part of Unify Championship Entertainment (UCE) show “Vindicta” on Saturday at Aloha Tower Marketplace in Honolulu.

Islanders knock off Ohana; Rebels rebound against A’s

LIHUE — Spring showers didn’t slow down the Kauai Senior Softball League with a full slate of games at the Peter Rayno Softball Park in Hanamaulu and at the Isenberg Softball Stadium. The Islanders entertained four games at the Rayno, and the Aloha Kia Lihue A’s put the field in order for a triple-header in town.
