Happy retirement, Eileen Naka‘ahiki, following 45 years of providing nursing skills to the community. Stephanie Iona (she was even a patient of Eileen’s) said Eileen was a nurse with Wilcox Hospital for 14 years before ending 31 years at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea.
Ground broken for Kapa‘a Pop Warner storage facility
KAPA‘A — Dignitaries from the Wescon Region Pop Warner, the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League, Kapa‘a Eagles Pop Warner, the Junior Olympic softball team and Kalani Construction broke ground Saturday on a new storage facility for Kapa‘a Pop Warner and the softball team at Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex next to Radford Sam Fong pavilion.
Food fundraiser on Sunday helps destroyed Lahaina temple
Among the destruction from the recent Maui wildfires, the 122-year-old Lahaina Shingon Mission and its minister’s residence were totally destroyed.

K-PAL wrestling registration opens
LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Police Activities League (K-PAL) announced on Tuesday that it is accepting registration from youths ages kindergarten through grade 12 for its wrestling programs in the Waimea, Lihu‘e and Kapa‘a areas.

Food banks step up to help Maui
Kaua‘i Lions Club member Jim Whitfield not only gave a donation, he spent a couple of hours volunteering at the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i warehouse in the Puhi Industrial Park on Saturday during the Kaua‘i Food Drive Day.
Damien runs over Kaua‘i High, 61-24
Kaua‘i High School’s Noah Ibaan pushed for two touchdowns and Racen Pegeder added one on Friday afternoon against the Damien High School Monarchs in a preseason football game at Vidinha Stadium. But the host Red Raiders could not find an answer to Damien’s Dayton Saves, who scored four of the Monarch’s nine touchdowns in the 61-24 Damien victory before a pocketful of enthusiastic Monarch faithful breaking up the sea of red-shirted fans.
