Westside pollution issue settled
LIHU‘E — Earthjustice announced on Wednesday that Na Ki‘ai Kai and the Surfrider Foundation, both groups represented by Earthjustice, settled a lawsuit with the County of Kaua‘i and the state’s Department of Health to clean pollution from drainage ditches discharging into the ocean along West Kaua‘i, including the Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor.
95-year-old retired teacher visited by father, daughter
LIHU‘E — Mrs. Katherine Hiramoto, a retired kindergarten teacher from Kapa‘a Elementary School, and her husband, Tats, a retired County of Kaua‘i engineer, recently received a visit from Brian Fujiuchi, retired Kaua‘i Police Chief, and his daughter Lauree’ who was visiting from the mainland for the holidays.
Two KIF teams alive in the Division II girls soccer chase
Two Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation girls soccer teams — the Division II top-seeded Kaua‘i High School and Kapa‘a High School — are still in the chase for the state title following the quarterfinals played on Thursday at the Motiv8 Foundation Hawai‘i High School Girls Soccer State Championship matches at Waipio Soccer Complex.
Erhu musician to play in Hanapepe
HANAPEPE — Hanapepe Public Library announced in celebration of Chinese New Year, which falls on Feb. 10, the Hawai‘i State Public Library System will present an Erhu talk and recital by Dr. Sun Hui on Feb. 8 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Hanapepe Public Library’s meeting room.
