Santa Claus could not stay away after seeing the Showtime Characters’ celebrated Disney princesses appear at his Santa’s House for the first-ever Princess Party Saturday at Kukui Grove Center. Well done, Mrs. Claus, who was busy preparing to dismantle the holiday masterpiece until the next appearance!

Raiders split home stand

Kauai High varsity boys basketball improved to 2-0 on the young Kauai Interscholastic Federation boys basketball season with a solid 56-45 win over Kapaa High before a strong audience that included Principal Marlene Leary garbed in Red Raider crimson at the Kauai High School gym Saturday night.

WAIMEA — Kauai High School’s Marissa Layosa scored 10 of her night’s 17 points in the second quarter Friday night during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation girls basketball game that determined the league’s first-round title before an audience that was roused to thunderous cheering in the final six minutes at the Clem Gomes Gym in Waimea.

The weather may have canceled the Kauai Interscholastic Federation paddling and soccer events Saturday (Tori Kagawa said she didn’t get the message so came in all the way from the Westside — good thing the Isle Hoops Holiday Classic was taking place so she could take in some basketball!) — but could not stop the shoppers on the last weekend before Christmas, who flocked to the Kauai Community Market at Kauai Community College (the one in Hanalei was canceled, too), where Jason Ebesu was a hit with his homemade ramen (Elvrine Chow said there was a lot of ono noodles).
