Aloha, and good luck to Georgia Degracia (she was doing her final AV tech job on Saturday at the Wilcox Health Keiki Run), who is embarking on a new chapter of her life on the mainland. The Showtime Characters dedicated the August Toddler Tuesday program to Georgia with appearances of Lilo and Stitch. Mickey (Brenda Biehler Turville said those were Georgia’s favorite characters) … and she never got to see the trio of mermaids that showed up for the Kukui Grove Movie Night.

Council honors Peleke Flores, Malama Huleia

LIHUE — The Kauai County Council on Wednesday commended Peleke Flores “as Hawaii’s social champion” after Flores received the National Education Association (NEA) Ellison S. Onizuka Memorial Award during the 57th annual National Education Association meeting held in July in Philadelphia.

2024 fall season girls volleyball underway

LIHUE — Kauai High School needed five sets and extra points, while Kapa‘a High School came back to win in four sets on Tuesday when the Kauai Interscholastic Federation initiated its 2024 fall season girls volleyball season.

Congratulations to Kauai High School Athletic Trainer Keith Burgess on completing his first half marathon at 3 hours, 8 minutes and 5 seconds. Keith had company as he ran with Kapaa High School Athletic Trainer Chris Ang, who was on duty Saturday night during the preseason football game against Kapolei High School. Chris smoked the half marathon in 2:12:56.

Kaiola represents at Queen Liliuokalani

KONA, Hawaii — According to Kaiola Canoe Club coach Lori Parraga, the Kaiola Canoe Club fared well at the Queen Liliuokalani Canoe Race that wrapped up on Monday in Kona on the Big Island.

Badges and Buckets starts Thursday in Lihue

LIHUE — Starting Thursday, Kauai Police Department (KPD) officers will be joined by Kauai Special Olympics athletes and sponsors on the ground at Walmart store in Lihue to launch the annual Badges and Buckets fundraiser.

Sea Scouts celebrate 15 years

NAWILIWILI — Kauai is the only island to host a Sea Scout program in Hawaii, Sea Scout officials announced on Friday when the two troops, one in Kapa‘a and the other in Port Allen, gathered with friends and government officials to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Sea Scouts at Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor.

POIPU — Representatives from the Iwaki Sunshine Marathon blistered the 26-mile Kauai Marathon to take the first two places in the full marathon phase of the event, which is celebrating its 15th year.

POIPU — Mathea Allansmith said she will be 94 years, 3 months and a day old on Sunday when the Kaua‘i Marathon starts at 6 a.m. with a field of more than 2,000 runners at the entrance to the Poipu Shopping Village.

Kauai Independent Food Bank collects $6,600 and more

LIHUE — Speaking during the Kauai Chamber of Commerce Governor’s Luncheon on Tuesday, Kelvin Moniz, the executive director of the Kauai Independent Food Bank, announced the food bank collected $6,600 in monetary contributions and 500 pounds of food during the one-day music fest at Anahola Marketplace on Saturday.
