OMA‘O — Two people were hospitalized Thursday morning following a three-car collision on Kaumuali‘i Highway in the vicinity of the Knudsen Gap, according to the Kaua‘i Police Department.
KPD reports a BMW sedan was traveling east on the highway at around 7:20 a.m. when it rear-ended a Toyota sedan that was stopped in traffic. The impact caused the vehicle to hit the Toyota sedan that was stopped ahead of their vehicle.
The 27-year-old female driver of the BMW sustained minor injuries and did not require treatment. The 27-year-old female driver of the sedan and male operator of the sedan, age 63, were transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The eastbound lane of Kaumuali‘i Highway was closed for roughly an hour. During the closure, officers directed one lane of alternating traffic flow. The highway was reopened at around 8:30 a.m. when vehicles could be cleared from the scene.
