This weekend may be all about dad but last weekend the kids stole the show at Wilcox Health’s annual Summer Kids Fest at Smith’s Tropical Gardens in Wailua.
Festival organizers estimate at least 600 keiki and their families attended the event, which was held for the first time at the picturesque venue along the Wailua River.
This year’s festivities included interactive games, demonstrations and information from 22 vendors, representing a variety of health and safety organizations, nonprofits and law enforcement agencies on Kauai and Oahu.
Participating organizations included the American Cancer Society, Kauai Lifeguard Association and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Kauai 4-H Youth Development Program, Tobacco-Free Kauai, University of Hawaii’s Concussion Management Program, Hawaii Optimum Performance, and People Attentive to Children.
Hawaii Pacific Health physicians were also on hand to provide free sports physicals to children between 5 to 18 years old.
Attendees were also treated to a free tram ride and narrated tour of the property — courtesy of Smith’s Tropical Gardens — and given the opportunity to stroll through the gardens throughout the event.
