Summer is officially here (well, on this side of the hemisphere, anyway). On Kauai, that means it’s time to welcome our loving friends: heat and high humidity. Although we love some intense sunshine from time to time, we can combat its powerful rays with a delicious, refreshing beverage.
At Olympic Cafe, you have your choice to cool down with beer, tropical cocktails, juices and teas.
I suggest you try out a Loose Leaf Tea on the rocks.
Stationed out of New Jersey, Loose Leaf Tea offers 100 percent premium organic ingredients. Olympic Cafe carries 14 different flavors. Categories include organic herbal infusion teas, scented and blended teas, plus black teas and green teas. All the teas are priced at $4.99 and are served hot or on the rocks.
This week’s drink is the Caribbean Cooler, a scented and blended tea consisting of mango, passion fruit, orange and lemon. It’s delicious to say the least — a little cane sugar wouldn’t hurt, but it’s delicious regardless.
If you’re in the mood for tropical cocktails, try out the Kauai 5-0, $9.95, a blend of light and dark rum with guava, pineapple juice and a splash of Sprite. The Blue Kauaian, $9.95, is also a winner, which is a mixture of coconut, pineapple, light rum and Blue Curacao.
General Manager Jakki Neslon said that happy hour at Olympic Cafe runs from 3 to 7 p.m. daily. Drinks are $1 off and domestic drafts are $2 off regular prices. Appetizers are $4.99 and are available only during happy hour.
“Appetizers include basic bar food: pot stickers, hot wings, coconut shrimp. We try to have a veggie option. Right now, we have fried pickles,” Nelson said.
