LIHUE — Rescue officials announced Thursday they located a Lihue woman who had been missing since Tuesday.
The 50-year-old was last seen at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday day near Ninini Beach, also known as Running Waters, north of Kalapaki Bay. Police had been assisting her family with the search since Tuesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 joined the effort with an aerial search while the U.S. Coast Guard participated in a sea-based search, but the search turned up no sign of the missing woman.
Police and fire personnel resumed the search this morning and officials were preparing to ask for the public’s assistance when word came in that the woman had been located. Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 located the woman shortly before 3 p.m. in a remote location along the south end of the bay. The woman suffered some lacerations but was reported to be in good health.
Fire rescuers short-hauled the woman from the rocky shoreline to a nearby landing area where awaiting medics transported her to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
