LIHUE — Tierra Reyno scored a goal in minute 71 to force a 1-1 tie with the Legends FC on Tuesday in Kansas.
Lenny Rapozo, Jr., the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation director, said his daughter, Machaela Rapozo, who attends Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama, is on the Leahu 95 Premier team that tied the Legends at the Overland Park Soccer Complex.
Playing in the U.S. Youth Soccer 2013 National Championships, the Leahi 95 Premier is in the under 18 division.
“This is one time I’m missing the game,” Lenny said. “I’ve gone to most of the games Machaela’s played in, but I couldn’t make this one.”
Meilessah Rangel found the net at the 20th minute to give the Legends a 1-0 edge at the break, but Leahi came back to force the tie on Reyno’s goal.
Leahi played ahead of the Legends in almost all aspects of the game. They fired off six corner kicks to the Legends’ four, took 22 shots to the Legends’ nine and had 13 shots on goal to the Legends’ seven.
But in the save department, the Legends marked 12 saves to Leahi’s six.
With the tie, Leahi 95 sits on a two-way tie with the Legends with a point each in the standings. VSA Heat Blue, a 2-1 winner over FC United Select and the defending under 18 girls national champion, is in the lead with three points.
Leahi 95 next meets the FC United Select starting at 10:30 a.m. Central Standard Time on Thursday.
