KALAHEO — Casey Anacleto fired off 25 points to lead #Ballout to a 71-38 win over the Meatballs Thursday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Sisters Joy and Lauren Claypoole combined for 31 points to lead the Kauai Ballers to a 59-38 win over Team 808 in the second game of the Kauai Youth Basketball Association 18 and over women’s summer league.
#Ballout was limited to just six players, one coming in the final minutes of play, but managed to outrun and outgun the full roster of the Meatballs’ 14 players.
“I don’t know where (Kamie Imai) came from, but she was pretty much sitting on the bench the first couple of games,” said Steven Matsumoto, scoring one of the games for KYBA. “She’s Natalie Mata’s friend, but she should have been on the floor from the start.”
Imai sizzled the twine with 22 points, 14 coming in the second half, followed by Mata adding 20 points as four of the five #Ballout players marked in the win.
Using the speed of guards Mata and Anacleto, the #Ballout notched 29 field goals to the Meatballs’ eight, although the Meatballs racked up seven bombs from outside the three-point arc compared with four for #Ballout.
Liona Hasegawa, getting high point honors for the Meatballs with 12 points, notched four of the team’s seven three-balls, two coming in the first quarter to give the Meatballs a 14-13 edge.
Led by Anacleto firing nine points, the #Ballout answered in the second frame, Mata firing six and Imai netting six to give #Ballout a 34-16 lead following an explosive 21-2 second quarter.
Anacleto finished with three of the #Ballout’s four three-balls. The fourth coming from Imai, who launched a fourth-quarter trey.
Following Hasegawa’s lead, Virginia Aguilar and Cheyanne Duarte finished with seven points each.
Joy Claypoole took the lead, firing off three of the Kauai Ballers’ 3-point bombs to end with 16 points. Sister Lauren Claypoole added 15 points and some height and strength in the paint with Reggie McCabe, who netted two of the team’s five treys in the second quarter, ending with 13 points.
Erin Connelly topped the Team 808 scoring on 11 points followed by Kelsey Cadiente ending with nine points.
The ladies take the floor, Sunday with two games on tap as the Meatballs open against Team 808 at 6 p.m. followed by #Ballout taking on the Kauai Ballers starting at 7 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
