LIHUE — James Pflueger, 87, of Honolulu, pleaded no contest to first-degree reckless endangerment charge in connection to 2006 Ka Loko Dam failure in 5th Circuit Court on Thursday. The plea deal has Pflueger serving a five year term of felony probation with conditions that include no possibility for early release.
In a separate case, attorney William McCorriston, as a representative of the board of Pacific 808 Properties LP, entered pleas of no contest to seven counts of manslaughter on behalf of the company formerly known as Pflueger Properties. The plea deal calls for a $50,000 fine for each of the seven individuals who were killed as a result of the dam burst for a total of $350,000.
The plea deal with the state Attorney General would have the original indictment dismissed following sentencing on the new charges on Jan. 23, 2014. However, Chief Judge Randal Valenciano scheduled a hearing on motions in the original case for March 17, 2014.
Pflueger was also represented by attorneys David Minkin and Mark Zenger.
The state was represented by Deputy Attorney Generals Vince Kanemoto and Simeona Mariano.
