LIHUE — Tropical Depression Flossie is expected to drift to the west, northwest part of the state by Tuesday afternoon, according to an updated provided by the National Weather Service at 8 p.m. Monday.
Flossie’s location, as of that time, was about 90 miles east of Honolulu with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.
Flossie is expected to pass over Kauai Tuesday morning, causing heavy rains and possibility of thunderstorms and flooding.
According to the National Weather Service, rainfall of 1 to 2 inches and sustained winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts up to 40 miles per hour is possible for Maui, Oahu and Kauai Counties as the storm moves over the state.
Surf of 6 to 10 feet is also possible through the evening.
National Weather Service officials say the potential for flash flooding remains for Maui, Oahu and Kauai Counties and are advising people and motorists to avoid any flooded areas and roadways.
Gusty south to southeast winds are likely, along with the rain, so power outages are possible.
Garden Isle officials recommend residents to continue to prepare and stay out of beaches and streams and stay off the roads during heavy rains. Flossie can change direction and winds can accelerate at any moment.
National Weather Service officials are also advising the public to monitor Flossie and any further statements from local authorities.
