LIHUE — County officials announced they will open the Vidinha Stadium parking lot and offer free shuttle services to Kauai Veterans Center for those wanting to attend the public hearing on Bill 2491 Wednesday.
The Kauai Bus will be providing the service as needed, from noon to midnight.
The bill, relating to pesticide-use disclosure and buffer zones for crops of genetically modified organisms, is expected to attract a large crowd.
“All members of the public are encouraged to utilize this park and ride shuttle service for the safety of all attending the public hearing,” states a press release from the Kauai County Council.
There will be a moderate number of parking stalls available at Kauai Veterans Center. Parking there will still be available for those seeking veterans services from the Office of Veterans Affairs, according to the release.
Parking on Kapule Highway is prohibited and those who choose to walk from the stadium along Kapule Highway should remain on the shoulder.
The doors at the Kauai Veterans Center will open at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The public hearing begins at 1:30 p.m. The seating and the opportunity to give testimony are based on a first-come, first-served basis.
Attendees who anticipate remaining for the duration of the public hearing should bring their own bottled water and food or snacks. But food and drinks are not allowed inside the Kauai Veterans Center, and should be consumed outside.
Interested persons who wish to present their comments on the bill may do so at the public hearing. Additionally, written testimony can be hand-delivered to the Office of the County Clerk, Historic County Building, 4396 Rice Street, Suite 209, Lihue, Kauai, 96766, faxed to 241-6349 or emailed to counciltestimony@kauai.gov.
The Kauai Veterans Center is at 3215 Kapule Hwy. in Lihue.
