PUHI — Groups needing to fundraise were among the nearly 40 vendors Saturday during the Grove Farm community swap meet at Puhi Park.
One week down, one more week to go, said Lisa Camalliri, a team mother with the Kauai Pony 13s baseball team. The team is in its second week of fundraising and used the event to help raise money for their trip to the Protect Our Nation’s Youth Regional Tournament in Fullerton, Calif.
The 4-H Commancheros, led by Bongo Lee, also used the swap meet as a fundraiser for its trip to the Horse Expo on the Big Island, Aug. 10 and 11.
The Easter Seals of Hawaii, Kauai Branch, supplements its budget by participating in the swap meet, selling off surplus items and using the proceeds to help fund some of its special programs.
“This is just one of two swap meets Grove Farm will host this year,” said Marissa Sandblom, Grove Farm’s vice president. “The next one will be in November.”
Arthur Brun, who sells smoked meat and sausage, said he’ll be using the smoke meat for a plate lunch fundraiser for the Hanapepe Pop Warner Football Association on July 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Syngenta Seeds facility in Kekaha.
“I spoke with Coach Kyle Linoz, and he said the team doesn’t have anything in the way of equipment,” Brun said. “They need a lot of help, and I’m glad Syngenta is hosting the plate lunch fundraiser.”
Leilani Sim-Godbyhere said the 4-H Commancheros were selling various tack items for horses as well as other craft items to help with its fundraising for the Big Island trip.
Sim-Godbyhere said in addition to raising funds, they were on hand to recruit new members for the equine-oriented 4-H club.
“You don’t need a horse,” Sim-Godbyhere said. “You just need to have a desire to learn more about horses.”
Camalliri said the Grove Farm community swap meet was very helpful for the Kauai Pony 13s.
“This was a very successful outing,” the team mom said. “After everything, we probably made enough to cover one week’s expense. Now, we just need to cover the second week.”
