LIHUE — Trinette Kaui was on the serving line Thursday during the Salvation Army of Kauai’s annual Mahalo Luncheon at the Kauai Museum.
But she is also on the board of the Contractors Association of Kauai, one of the honorees recognized by the Salvation Army for their respective efforts in assisting the Army with its mission of helping those in need.
Following each CAK meeting — where food benefiting the Salvation Army, Hanapepe Corps’ Kokua Soup Kitchen is collected — Kaui loads the collection and on her way to work at the A&B Properties office in the Port Allen marina, and makes a swing to the Hanapepe Corps to drop off the collected food.
Joining the CAK, which has been donating to the Salvation Army since 2006, other honorees include Kauai Coffee Co. — a Salvation Army partner that provides coffee and refreshments for the Salvation Army programs, including its annual Thanksgiving community luncheon.
Ron and Krissi Miller of the Hukilau Lanai were recognized for their generous food contributions to the soup kitchen. In addition to its fresh, locally-sourced meals, the Hukilau Lanai named the Salvation Army as the beneficiary when they topped the Kauai County Farm Bureau Chef’s Challenge during the 2012 fair.
The Kauai High School Key Club, under the direction of Charlene Navarro, has long supported the Salvation Army, taking to the streets during the holidays by manning the Red Kettles as well as volunteering at the thrift store and the annual Thanksgiving community luncheon.
Individual honorees include Elizabeth Dutdut of the Hanapepe Corps and Kilaina Clement of the Lihue Corps.
Honorees and their supporters, including Larry Rivera, who perennially provides music at the Lihue Corps’ Thanksgiving community luncheon, were treated to lunchtime grinds by Mark’s Place and Contemporary Flavors Catering while Dickie Chang emceed the event and Darryl Gonzales played music.
