KOLOA — Koloa Elementary School was treated to some rewards from the recent Koloa Plantation Days Wednesday at its back-to-school assembly.
Following the presentation of the school’s new staff, school principal Russell Hasegawa called on Koloa School alumni Arryl Kaneshiro and Alison Moriguchi.
Kaneshiro, who chaired a successful Koloa Plantation Days parade, promptly presented Hasegawa with an award for third place in the Decorated Vehicle category of the parade.
But the presentation was only the beginning as Kaneshiro and Moriguchi offered the school a check for $1,070, representing donations received from the more than 150 people who participated in the Look Back Through the Sugar Era tour, which was part of the 10-day Koloa Plantation Days celebration.
“We put out a donation box earmarked for Koloa School,” Kaneshiro said. “But Grove Farm wanted to do a little more, so the company offered to match, dollar-for-dollar, any donations made during the tour.”
Marissa Sandblom, a Grove Farm vice president, said $410 was collected, and in addition to the generous contributions, Grove Farm wanted to help the effort.
