Bubble tea and smoothies are carried by several places around the island these days, but Kauai Boba Drink is about the only one to serve the drinks exclusively.
The store offers powder-based juice, milk tea and real fruit smoothies or boba (bubble tea) drinks, along with tapioca “pearl” balls, shave ice and jam flavorings, with toppings that include jelly, popping boba and mini mochi.
Xia Mei (Joyce) Yu is a native of China and moved to Kauai three years ago. She opened Kauai Boba Drink seven months ago and said this is her first business and finds it to be a good fit for tropical Kauai.
“I like this one because here it is hot and more people like the boba drink,” Yu said. “Business is doing OK, not too bad.”
Kauai Boba Drink has a real fruit smoothie option for $4.25. The choices include avocado, mango, peach, honeydew, papaya, pineapple, blueberry, banana, strawberry and kiwi.
The juice drinks run $3.75 in 11 varieties, including strawberry, passion fruit, green apple, peach, litchi, mango, kiwi, orange, pineapple, blueberry and honeydew.
The milk tea drinks run $3.25 in nine varieties, including original, honeydew, coconut, taro, vanilla, strawberry, banana, mango and papaya.
Honey-dew, taro, fresh fruit mango papaya and strawberry are favorites, Yu said. A member coupon offers a free drink after 10 stamps.
Kauai Boba Drink is located at 3-3122 Kuhio Highway in Lihue.
