Trevor McCracken and Dawn Mones of Kapaa High School and Lucas Gushikuma of Kauai High School were named the 2013 Grove Farm Scholars.
The announcement was made at a special dinner at the Grove Farm’s Iliahi Estate to honor the students’ accomplishments during their years leading to graduation from high school.
“Grove Farm is a longtime supporter of numerous educational initiatives on Kauai,” said Warren Haruki, President and CEO of Grove Farm. “We created this merit-based scholarship opportunity as a way to support some of our island’s most civic-minded students and we are happy to partner with them as they embark on their continuing educational journey.”
Haruki said Gushikuma, McCracken and Mones are examples of students who recognize the value of strong community service and Grove Farm is honored to have them represent the company as its 2013 Grove Farm Scholars.
As a Grove Farm Scholar, each student earns a $5,000 scholarship per year for four years provided they continue their volunteerism and community service.
The son of Vicki and Kenneth Gushikuma of Kapaa, Lucas will be attending the University of Portland and will focus on pursuing a sports medicine career.
