KAPAA — A blessing ceremony Wednesday marked the completion of the Department Of Water pipeline replacement project.
The $2.1 million project awarded to Goodfellow Brothers came in $100,000 under budget and under deadline.
“We were fortunate in partnering with the state Department of Transportation, putting the pipeline in ahead of the highway improvements,” said Dustin Moises, DOW manager.
Moises said the pipeline replacement, part of the DOW Water Plan 2020, included changing the existing 5-inch galvanized steel waterline with a 12-inch C-900 PVC line.
“The distance covered the area from the Kapaa Chevron gas station to approximately Pono Kai and 2,600 feet of line was installed,” Moises said. “Because of the DOT collaboration and partnership, we were able to come in under budget. More importantly, the project finished early — ahead of the endangered bird fledging season.”
Sam Marvel of Goodfellow Brothers said credit should go to the good work of the crews of 40 to 50 people.
