Trevor Kua fired the second-best round 76, Sunday during the 2013 Hawaii State Junior Golf Association Junior Tour Series — All Ages — Kauai.
But the effort could not overcome his opening-round 84, as the Lihue golfer settled for a two-day total 160, tying with Taylor John McGerity for sixth place in the Boys 13-14 class at the Kauai Lagoons Golf Club.
Trevor Arashiro of Honolulu, firing an opening round 69 to lead the class, continued to blaze in the sunny, but windy weather Sunday to card a 74 for a 36-hole total 143.
He was followed by Japan’s Naoto Yoshiyukiof (75-74-149), Rilen Loo, of Lihue, (75-79-149), Cole Shintaku (77-81-158), Acey Yanagishita (80-79-159), McGerity (82-78-160), Kua (84-76-160), MinJae Kang (82-82-164), Andrew Otani (89-77-166) and Ray Kim (83-89-172).
Other Kauai golfers in the tournament that wrapped up Sunday included Naea Oda, finishing seventh in the Girls 15-18 class with a 169 (86-83) over the 5,701-yard course, Zoey Akagi-Bustin, of Wahiawa, Oahu winning the flight on a 152 (74-78).
Bryden Salvador, of Kilauea, finished third in the Boys 15-18 class, coming up three strokes short of second with a 155 (77-78) on the 6,714-yard layout.
He was followed three strokes back by Jamie Amimoto, of Lihue, who carded a 2-day 158 (81-77) with Keegan Loo of Lihue ending in seventh at 165 (83-82). Keith Jose, of Kalaheo, carded an opening round 93, but withdrew on the final round.
Ariel Elftman-Hanson, of Wailuku, Maui, topped the Boys 15-18 class with an 8-over par 148 (71-77).
Princeville’s Niki Slater Upson finished third in the Boys 7-10 class with a 202 (105-97), the class being won by Go Nakatsukasa of Fukuoka, Japan, who carded a 155 (77-78) over the 4,971-yard course.
Hiilani Alana, of Lihue, finished with a 2-day 184 (92-92) over the 5,701-yard layout, for third place, the class being taken by Alanis Sakuma, of Kapolei, Oahu, who carded a 147 (73-74).
Sara Keppel, of Honolulu, rebounded with a 75 on the 4,971-yard course to finish with a 153 (78-75) to take the Girls 11-12 class by five strokes over Minny Byun (82-76-158), also of Honolulu.
Aj Teraoka, also from Honolulu, led two days to finish with a 157 (79-78) to claim the Boys 11-12 class, playing on 5,701 yards.
Winners from the HSJGA All Ages JTS Kauai will be invited to the Michelle Wie HSJGA Tournament of Champions at the Wailea Golf Club, Dec. 14 and 15.
The HSJGA All Ages JTS Kauai is one of three tournaments where HSJGA golfers can earn points to qualify for the Hawaii team for the Asia Pacific Junior Cup which will be contested Nov. 3 through 5 at the Waikoloa Beach Resort — Kings’ Course with the Hilton Grand Vacations as its title sponsor.
Golfers can also earn points to qualify for the Asia Pacific Junior Cup at the Oahu Junior Classic which will be contested this weekend at the Turtle Bay-Fazio course, and the 2013 Kiahuna Junior Classic which will be contested Oct. 12 and 13 at the Kiahuna Golf Club in Poipu.
