LIHUE — Heavy rains on Thursday Kauai did little to dampen the Make A Splash event.
More than 500 of Kauai’s fifth-graders from public and private schools took part in the annual Project WET Make A Splash program at the park across the roadway from the Department of Water offices.
Students, braving the intermittent showers, learned about water through inter-active visits at nine stations, including Na Hana Noii, Incredible Journey, Aqua Bodies, Groundwater Model, Long Haul, H2O Olympics, Sum of the Parts, Water Works, No Belly Aches, and Humpty Dumpty where students were taught it is a lot easier to preserve an ecosystem than to rebuild one.
Also joining the Department of Water staff, volunteers from the Kapaa High School Jr. ROTC program helped with the set up, guiding groups through the stations, and taking turns leading some of the groups.
The Kauai Fire Department had one of its trucks and the new instructional trailer on site, too.
