HANAPEPE — The Kapaa Eagles and Hanapepe Colts each won two of its three games Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium.
The Kapaa Eagles opened the Kauai Pop Warner Football League six-game series with a 25-0 win over the Lihue Patriots in the Mitey Mite division, and a 12-6 win over the Patriots in the Junior Midget division.
The Eagles dropped to the Patriots, 19-6 in the Junior Peewee division.
The hosting Hanapepe Pop Warner Association similarly notched two wins over the Koloa Redskins, dropping its opener, 22-0 in the Mitey Mite matchup, but coming back to edge the Redskins, 20-18 in the JM game, and shut down Koloa 28-0 in the JPW matchup.
Connor Payomo peeled off touchdown runs of 33 yards, 42 yards and 36 yards to lead the Eagles MM to its 25-0 win over the Patriots. Payomo’s final TD with 2:27 showing in the third quarter getting a point-after by Makai Garrick.
Kaikea Tandal got the crowd excited with 19 seconds remaining in the first quarter when he broke open for a 33-yard score.
Lihue’s Shiloh Louis-Kaneakua redeemed the opening loss with three touchdowns in the 19-6 JPW win over Kapaa.
Louis-Kaneakua opened the scoring with 3:18 showing in the first quarter, peeling off a 79-yard scoring run for the 6-0 bulge.
Kapaa answered in the second period when Kawika Na-o pushed through traffic for a 1-yard score with 1:50 showing in the half. The point-after failed for the 6-6 deadlock at the break.
Louis-Kaneakua added scores of 39 yards and 10 yards in the second half, doing the point-after honors in the third period for the final math.
Kapaa Eagles quarterback Teili Fonua found Kalena Harder for a 17-yard pass to open the scorebooks with just seven ticks showing in the first quarter to lead the Eagles to its 12-6 edge over the Patriots in the JM matchup.
Bryceson Abigania answered the Eagle score on a 25-yard touchdown with just 27 seconds remaining in the third period for the 6-6 stalemate which stood until the final 38 seconds when Ekolu Rivera pushed the Eagles ahead on a 4-yard run to paydirt.
The Koloa Redskins Mitey Mites put everyone to work, Robin Correa getting the nod for the 1-yard touchdown with 7:10 showing in the half. Bronze DeCosta did the point-after kick for the 8-0 lead.
Komea Inouye found the end zone with 2:34 left in the half on a 3-yard charge with Joseph Sams doing the point-after kick for the 16-0 halftime lead.
The score stood until the final 48 seconds when Nakoa Andrade found paydirt on a 12-yard run for the 22-0 final.
Noah Ruiz’s point-after boot was the margin of victory for the Hanapepe Colts’ 20-18 win over the Koloa Redskins in the JM matchup.
Keola Baclayon pulled in a pass, ran a touchdown, and passed for a touchdown in the Koloa effort, Baclayon opening the scorebooks with 20 ticks left in the first quarter by pulling in a 5-yard pass from Kona Asano for the 6-0 lead.
The Colts answered with 49 seconds left in the half when Kapono Constantino, scoring all three of the Colt touchdowns, got his first score on a 40-yard run, Ruiz doing the point-after boot for the 8-6 go-ahead at the half.
Constantino built on the lead with two scores, runs of 16 yards and 25 yards in the third period for the 20-6 Colt lead.
But the Redskins answered with two scores in the final period, Baclayon getting the first on a 4-yard run at the 8:13 mark and followed the score by passing to Kyle Bisarra for a 45-yard touchdown.
Makoa Vanaman scored two touchdowns and triggered the running clock with Bryson Kapahu kicking two point-after efforts to lead the Colts to a 28-0 win over the Redskins in the JPW matchup.
Vanaman tapped the end zone for the first of two opening period scores, peeling off three yards for the touchdown and Kapahu booting the point-after for the 8-0 lead.
Wailani Kawahalau upped the scoreboard on a 2-yard score with 58 seconds showing in the first period, Kapahu getting his second point-after boot for the 16-0 reading after one quarter.
Early in the second period, Colts QB Degan Davis found Kapahu on a 9-yard passing touchdown. Mana Nelmeida-Rice blocked the PAT effort for Koloa for the 22-0 lead.
With 58 seconds showing in the half, Vanaman triggered the running clock when he scored a 33-yard touchdown for the 28-0 final.
The Kauai Pop Warner Football League hosts six games Saturday at Vidinha Stadium when the Kekaha Titans meet the Koloa Redskins and the Hanapepe Colts take on the Kapaa Eagles in the afternoon series.
First game starts at 8:30 a.m. when the Mitey Mite Titans take on the Redskins.
