After switching owners in March 2008, the second location of Brick Oven Pizza was established in Wailua, Kapaa later the same year. A business that is operated by three families of friends — Aguano, Gummerus and Rice (aka AGR Inc.) — the restaurant definitely has a family feel.
Besides a meal, customers can enjoy a sports bar atmosphere if they want. The bar and big-screen TV next to it had attracted a big gathering of people relaxing with friends, family, meal and a drink.
“We are one of few places on Kauai that serves pitchers of beer,” manager Kassie Tanigawa said about the restaurant.
The daily happy hour is from 2 to 6 p.m. with pitchers being $10. As far as cocktails go, the “Bad-Ass Mojito” I had was delicious and not too strong. Made with Bombay Sapphire Gin and fresh blueberries and strawberries, the drink was a refreshing end to a hot day.
“I try to bring fresh fruit for the bar and experiment with new drinks,” manager Tanigawa said, while bartender Koa Navarro, was making my drink along with a cucumber drink that wasn’t yet on the menu.
The first location was previously run by the Demas family since 1977 in Kalaheo.
