ELEELE — St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eleele will hosts its traditional pancake breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Eleele Elementary School.
“I don’t know how long I’ve done this, but it’s for the church so I have to help,” said Margare Makishi. “Every year, they find something for me to help with.”
The breakfast benefits the Episcopal Churches of West Kauai, including the St. Paul’s church in Kekaha and the St. John’s church in Eleele.
“I’m going to try and get our motorcycle club to attend,” said Manny Igaya, a rider with the Sons of Kauai, also serving as a worship minister at the St. Francis Sunday service. “The motorcycle clubs like to attend these community breakfasts.”
Greg Williams, event chair, said they are a little short on fruits this year, so people wanting to help can drop off fresh fruits Saturday.
Volunteers are welcome to sell tickets, serve food, help run the game corner for keiki and clean up.
Pancakes headline the menu, along with other breakfast foods supplemented with homemade Japanese-style pickles and miso soup. Take-outs are also available.
“The ECWK Pancake Breakfast is always well-attended with ono food, great fellowship, and lots of fun,” said Lyn Farman, the St. John’s organist and producer of the church’s newsletter. “People are in line well before the 7 a.m. opening. Don’t miss it.”
To accomodate the annual breakfast, there will be no service at St. Paul’s church in Kekaha. Paster Imelda Padasdao, the Ilocano Minister for the Episcopal Church, will host an Ilocano service at St. John’s starting at 8 a.m.
