A dress created out of pillowcases can make a difference for a young girl somewhere in the world.
Members of the Kauai Association for Family and Community Education recently cut, sewed, ironed and put together 42 Pillowcase Dresses for the Hawaii FCE’s “Dress a Girl Around the World” program.
“These dresses provide protection from sex trafficking in third world countries,” said Lenore Klass. “These traffickers prey on children with torn, dirty clothes.”
Klass said children who are clean and dressed nicely present an appearance that someone is caring for them and are less likely to be abducted and taken into the sex trade.
Club Musubi, one of five clubs of the Kauai FCE, said the “Dress a Girl Around the World” is an initiative of the National FCE organization, formerly known as the University Extension Women’s Clubs.
“These dresses will be sent to the Big Island FCE members who go on missions where they will give the dresses away to girls in need in the countries they visit,” Carol Lum said in a report.
Klass said one dress makes an enormous difference in a child’s life and gives them dignity, confidence and self-love.
