NAWILIWILI — Matson Navigation’s food drive comes just in time for the holidays.
Momi Machado, representing Nana’s House in Waimea, Dori Farias and Cara Sadira, representing Hale Hoomalu in Kapaa appeared at the Matson, Nawiliwili Port to pick up 620 pounds of food collected by the Matson associates.
“This is the second year we’re doing the food drive,” said Reni Domingo, Matson’s senior customer service representative. “Last year, we collected food for the Kauai Independent Food Bank. This year, we wanted our food to have more impact — to go directly to where it benefits people.”
While pondering the possibilities, Domingo discovered a supervisor at Matson who has relatives who benefit directly from services provided by Nana’s House.
“This is what we were looking for,” Domingo said. “Through the efforts of our employees, we got fliers describing the services Nana’s House and Hale Hoomalu offers and how it benefits people who visit the facilities.”
Farias, who just returned to work following surgery, said the food contribution comes at the right time.
“Demand for food through our food pantry program is always high,” Farias said.”
