The KCC Fine Arts program kicks off its end-of-semester Art and Music Expo with a reception at noon Tuesday in the One Stop Center. Art students will display the fruits of their labors, while the KCC Vocal Ensemble and the KCC Hula Club will entertain with an hour-long concert beginning at noon. KCC art students will also be displaying and selling their work at the Kalo Festival at Waipa this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
In November, the college hosted “Life after Transfer,” an event which pairs current KCC students who are planning on transferring to a four-year UH campus with former KCC students who can offer advice. Interested parties may contact Rebecca Yund (245-8383) or Andrea Erichsen (245-8378).
Also in November, faculty and students from the plant bioscience technology program took a field trip to the Big Island, where they met with students and faculty from the Hawaii Community College agriculture program and scientists from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Directed by KCC lecturer Dr. Dallas McCurley, the Japanese kyogen classic Busu (“Poisoned Sugar”) was recently staged by Kauai’s own Women in Theatre drama group. McCurley’s production has been chosen to headline the Japan Studies Association’s International Conference in January. A restaging of the show on Kauai is planned for 2014.
Pat McGrath, associate professor of English, is once again serving as assistant director for the DOE’s high school production of Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy The Importance of Being Ernest. Performances are at the Children of the Land theater in Kapaa beginning Dec. 13. For information, call 651-2417.
In the upcoming semester English instructor Brian Cronwall will be teaching EALL 272, Japanese Literature in Translation on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:50-12:05. The KCC Concert Band and Jazz Band present their Holiday Concert this Saturday at 7 p.m. at the KCC Performing Arts Center. The college held a reception on Nov. 26 to honor and thank donors to the college’s scholarship funds. The evening began with a prayer by counselor Isaiah Kaauwai and Pua Rossi-Fukino, Hawaiian Studies faculty member, served as emcee. Culinary arts program students provided “high tea” refreshments.
