LIHUE — Mililani High School, a highly regarded Division I soccer team, came to Kauai and swept its four games, ending on Saturday.
Playing at Vidinha Stadium, the Trojans took a 2-0 win over the Island School boys Friday afternoon, followed by a 5-0 win over Kapaa High School, the defending Kauai Interscholastic Federation champion and Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II state champions.
Mililani, under the direction of coaching staff Jeff Yamamoto, Steve McGehee, Blane Ogawa, Ian Hasegawa, Darren Smith, Tim Liu, Kurt Kagawa and Bert Momohara, lost little time in securing its four-game sweep, striking early and locking up wins in the first half of each of their games.
“We have a relative, Treyton Kong, who plays for Mililani so we came to watch for a little while,” said Mahealani Contrades-Brun, the Kalaheo Elementary School Parent Community Network Coordinator.
Following the Trojans’ win over the Voyagers, the visiting Mililani squad opened against Kapaa, striking its first goal in the first five minutes of play before being soaked by a passing deluge.
The rain didn’t dampen the Trojan spirit as Mililani struck again in the downpour before closing its 5-0 win.
