Girls 14 and under are invited to the tryouts for a Hawaii Youth Soccer Association Under 14 girls team, said Mariko Strickland, coach of the U14 Girls team.
Tryouts will be held Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Anahola Village Park from 3:45 to 5:30 p.m. Interested players must bring a soccer ball.
Mariko, who will be assisted by Kanani Strickland in coaching the team, said players who are currently registered on a HYSA team must have a written release to attend the tryouts.
Mariko was born and raised on Kauai and grew up playing soccer both on Kauai and Oahu for the Leahi club soccer programs. She attended national youth camps and was an Olympic Development Program Region IV team member for four years, advancing to play Division I soccer at Long Beach State University following high school graduation.
The collegiate experience moved her to play semi-pro soccer for Ajax in Los Angeles. Mariko was on the Colorado Rush team which won a national championship in 2006.
