The start of a new year is a great time to set resolutions. Why not add ‘saving lives’ to the top of your list? Would you take an hour out of your day to save a loved one? Of course you would. Why not do it for someone you don’t know?
Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood. January is National Blood Donor Month and a great time to start a tradition of saving lives by becoming a blood donor.
As you think now about your goals to accomplish this year, take a minute and do something we typically don’t until the need arises: think about blood. There is a constant need for blood because it’s a natural resource. It can’t be manufactured in a lab or grown on a farm. It comes from one source only: from ordinary people who take the time to be extraordinary and donate, not knowing who they may help.
What if you were lying in a hospital bed and your life depended on blood? There’s someone out there who is depending on you. It only takes an hour to help save a life and touch the lives of the loved ones of Hawaii’s patients.
Don’t let a busy schedule or fear of needles stop you from saving lives. Just take a minute and think about the person in the hospital bed. They’re afraid of dying. It only takes an hour toDonating blood may not be for everyone, but that’s why those who can donate should. If you’re 18 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more, and are in good health, chances are you’re able to donate blood. Even if you’re 17 years old, with parental consent you can give blood too.
Blood Bank of Hawaii will be collecting blood in Kauai on February 10 at Waimea High School and on February 11 and 12 at the Kauai War Memorial. To schedule your donation, call Blood Bank of Hawaii at (800) 372-9966 or visit BBH.org for more information.
