LIHUE — Coming ahead of the installation of the Pier 1 Imports sign, Kauai Builders workers started removing the familiar Borders Books & Music signage Wednesday.
“The Pier 1 sign is still being manufactured, but work is continuing on the 40,000-square-foot space,” said Stacie Chiba-Miguel, the CBRE Real Estate Manager. “The drywall and space is already in place.”
Chiba-Miguel said the removal of the iconic bookstore signage is part of the Kukui Grove Center preparations to welcome Pier 1 Imports, North America’s largest specialty retailer.
Pier 1 Imports carries a range of items including indoor and outdoor furniture, decorative accessories and gifts.
“In addition to the employment generated by the construction, we are excited about permanent employment opportunities that Pier 1 Imports will offer to local residents,” said Wade Lord, general manager at the Kukui Grove Center.
The job opportunities are not limited to Pier 1 Imports, but will extend to the opening of Sports Authority, in the location formerly occupied by Sears Electronics, and Taco Del Mar, Chiba-Miguel said.
A job fair is being planned at the shopping center where residents can get more information as well as sign up for jobs for the three new retail operations and opportunities from other mall tenants.
Taco Del Mar, located in Suite A12 adjacent to the Longs Drugstore, is set to open February.
