Four days before the release of their new album “Revelation” on Jan. 21, The Garden Island caught up with JoJo Garcia of the Grammy award-winning group Los Lonely Boys.
JoJo, one-third of the Texas trio, was at home in Texas before departing on a tour taking them to Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Japan and around the Mainland.
“Give a little more,” one cut off the new album, has a reggae beat mixed with rock and pop.
“Bob Marley has been a definite influence on our music,” said Jojo. “He is a big name in the Lonely Boys family.”
Like Marley, the Lonely Boys have a way with lyrics.
The track “There’s always tomorrow” is one that JoJo says is about not putting off letting people know how you feel about them.
“You just never know when your time is up,” he told TGI. “People should give a hug or kiss or compliment when it’s asked for, not only when there is time for it. Go back to any of our records and you’ll hear that message, one of love.”
The bassist/vocalist shares his emotions with his brothers every day.
“We lead our lives by example,” said Jojo. “We’re telling each other we love one another every day in our family.”
Their example of love impacts their fans.
“We’re greeted by our fans all the time who tell us stories about how our music affects them,” said Jojo, as evidenced by one family he mentioned as an example.
“It was a mother, father and 16-year-old daughter who approached him after one concert,” explained JoJo. “They hadn’t been getting along and the daughter was having suicidal thoughts, keeping her distance from her parents. The family told me that our music and going to the concert brought them back together as a family.”
JoJo and his brothers Henry and Ringo Garza Jr. will perform Sunday at the Kilohana Plantation at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are at $65 and $45 and are on sale at the Hanalei Surf Company, Kauai Music and Sound in Kapaa, Progressive Expressions in Poipu, Scotty’s Music in Kalaheo and Big Kmart in Lihue.
Tickets can also be purchased at www.ticketweb.com.
Also, all tickets purchased for last year’s canceled concert will be honored.
