Barbara Cummings
Barbara Jean Cummings of Anahola passed away at home on Dec. 28, 2013, at the age of 76. She was born in Kealia, Kauai on July 1, 1937, and was a dedicated homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Cummings Sr.; parents, George and Nora Keawe; brother George Keawe; sister, Arleen Keawe; son-in-law, Vince Efhan; grandson, Byron Cummings.
She is survived by seven children, John Cummings Jr. of Honolulu, Alvin Cummings of Seattle, Washington, Holiday Efhan of Anahola, George (Leimomi) Cummings of Anahola, Billy (Tessie) Cummings of Wailua Houselots, Dennis (Lynn) Cummings of California, Michele (Ken) Nakamura of Kealia; sister, Georgie Lynn Lucidarme of Kapaa; 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Kapaa Assembly of God Church with viewing from 8 a.m. and services at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home is assisting the Cummings family with arrangements.
Florendo Melchor Sr.
Florendo Macadaeg Melchor Sr. of Kapaa passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on January 4, 2014, at the age of 82. He was born in Laoag City, Philippines on August 28, 1931, and retired as a Research Associate with University of Hawaii Experiment Station.
He is survived by his wife, Consorcia “Connie” Melchor of Kapaa; seven children, Celia (Ferdinand) Questin of Kapaa, Josie (Tony) Aurelio of Lihue, Amy (Larry) Tamayo of Kapaa, Myrna (Douglas) Patterson of Ewa Beach, Florendo (Imelda) Melchor Jr. of Lihue, Agnes (Aristotle) Santa Cruz of Ewa Beach, Nelia (Rodel) Asuncion of Kapaa; 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Kapaa with viewing from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Lucille Nakamatsu
Lucille Y. Nakamatsu of Lawai, Kauai, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on January 7, 2014 at the age of 71. Born on October 10, 1942 in Waimea, she was a teacher/registrar with Waimea High School.
She is survived by her husband, Marshal Nakamatsu; son, Scott Nakamatsu of Lawai; daughter, Kelly (Wes Florentino) Valencia of Kunia, Oahu; two grandchildren, Tori Nakamatsu-Figaroa and Makayla Valencia; sisters, Brenda (James) Denny of Kekaha, and Diane (William) Meyer of Kingsburg, California; son-in-law, Marlon Valencia; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Private Services will be held at a later date. Family only. Family requests privacy.

Kimiyo Asai
Kimiyo Asai passed away on December 28, 2013 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 92. Born on June 27, 1912 in Kukuiula, she was a farmer.
Preceded in death by her daughter Hiroko Tada. She is survived by her sons, Tetsumi (Harumi) Asai and Yoshiharu (Eloise) Asai, and son-in-law Masaru; daughter Yumiko (Wallace) Nakamura, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 to 4:00 pm at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai on Saturday January 18, 2014; service begins at 4:00 pm. Casual attire is suggested and please omit flowers.

John Lee
John Douglas Lee of Kilauea, Kauai, Hawaii. Passed away on December 29, 2013 at the age of 66 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Born on September 1, 1947 in Helena, Montana. He was a Master Carpenter and a Vietnam War Veteran.
Preceded in death by his father, John Lee and mother, Hazel Wood.
He is survived by numerous friends.

Cynthia Duarte
Cynthia Duarte of Wailua passed away at her home on January 8, 2014 at the age of 64. She was born on Kauai on October 14, 1949. She was a retired construction laborer and landscaper.
She is preceded in death by her parents Kiyoko Victorino and Henry Victorino; brother Henry Victorino Jr., sister Valerie Victorino; and her son Anthony Waipa.
She is survived by her husband Bernard Duarte; sons Cedrick Waipa of Wailua; John I Waipa of Waimanalo; John II Waipa of Kapaa; Brendan Duarte of Wailua; stepchildren Bernard Duarte, Jr., (Heidi) of Kapaa; Jonathan Duarte of South Carolina; Maile Duarte-Rego of Honolulu; sister Eileen Bascon (Roy Freitas) of Makawao; hanai sister and cousin Cosie (Phil) Tacbian of Wailua; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 18 at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapaa. Visitation 9 am to 10 am, mass to follow.

Manuel Martin
Manuel Benjamin Martin of Kekaha, Kauai, Hawaii. Passed away on January 5, 2014 at the age of 84. Born in Mana Camp, Kauai on May 27, 1929. He was a mechanical foreman for Kokee Tracking Station.
Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Richarda Martin and brother, Lawrence Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Martin, Kekaha; son, Patrick Martin, Kekaha; daughter, Lynette (Leon) Buduan, Washington; brother, John (Isabelle “Bella”) Martin, Oahu; sister, Janet Reis, Kekaha; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, numerous Auntie & Uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday January 15, 2014 at Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, Kekaha. Visitaion at 10:30 a.m., Mass to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m.
Casual attire is suggested.

Tsugimori Hosono, M.D. of Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii passed away on November 28, 2013 at Straub Hospital, Honolulu, at the age of 84. He was born on January 1, 1929 in Tokyo, Japan. He was a Retired Anesthesiologist.
Preceded in death by his parents, Kuruma & Yoshiko Hosono; brothers, Akira & Toshiro Hosono.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hosono, Kapaa; son, Erwin (Beth) Hosono, California; daughters, Sonia (Mike) Mintum, Ohio; Melissa Hosono, Haena; step daughter, Pamela (Tyler) Walters, Texas; 7 grandchildren, two sisters, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Private memorial services were held at All Saints Episcopal Church, Kapaa.

Tsukasa Murakami
Tsukasa Murakami of Hanapepe, Kauai, passed away at home on December 29, 2013 at the age of 90. Born on March 24, 1923 in Kalopa, Big Island, he was a Commercial Property Manager.
He is survived by his wife, Yukie Murakami; daughters, Aimee (Gerald) Y.M. Ida and Judith S. Murakami (Kenneth Fukushima), both of Kauai; two granddaughters, Kelsi H.K. Ida of Seattle, and Donica R.K. Ida of New York; step-brothers, Kiyoshi Murakami and Yoshiki Murakami, both of Big Island; and step-sisters, Michiko Higa, Hatsuko Yamamura, and Yoshiko Murakami, all of Oahu.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Service will begin at 10:30 am
