LIHUE — Two men were arrested Wednesday in connection with a burglary that occurred at a Kapaa home late Tuesday night.
According to the Kauai Police Department, officers were called to the home on Inia Street shortly after midnight on New Year’s Eve. The residents reported several items were missing from their home, including money orders, musical instruments, a laptop computer and other electronics.
Patrol officers located three men in the area in possession of the items reported stolen. All three suspects were taken into custody, with one man released pending further investigation.
Nolan Kaleimamahu, 26, of Anahola, was arrested on one count of second-degree theft. His bail was set at $1,000.
Jacob Mahuka, 22, of Kapaa, was arrested on one count of first-degree burglary and one count of second-degree theft. His bail was set at $6,000.
Both suspects remain incarcerated at Kauai Police cellblock today in lieu of the stated bail.
Mahuka has a previous fourth-degree theft arrest in 2012.
Kaleimamahu was sentenced to a year of jail in March for a second-degree escape and second-degree theft conviction in 5th Circuit Court. His prior misdemeanor convictions include third-degree assault, contempt of court and interfering with a report of a crime.
