LIHUE — The Kapaa High School soccer teams won all four of their matches against Waimea Saturday at Vidinha Stadium. Two games, Island School hosting Kauai High School, were rescheduled for today, the girls varsity match starting at 2 p.m.
LIHUE — The Kapaa High School soccer teams won all four of their matches against Waimea Saturday at Vidinha Stadium.
Two games, Island School hosting Kauai High School, were rescheduled for today, the girls varsity match starting at 2 p.m. and the boys varsity game kicking off at 4 p.m. at the Island School facility.
The Kapaa victories, including a 10-0 shutout by the junior varsity girls over Waimea, a 3-1 win by the JV boys over Waimea, a 2-0 win by the varsity girls, and a 2-0 win by the varsity boys sets up the final week of soccer in the Kauai Interscholastic Federation.
“We have the play-in game for the Hawaii High School Athletic Association, Feb. 1 following the varsity boys’ game at Vidinha Stadium,” said Kauai High School athletic director Dino Pabre. “Our No. 2 girls team will play a team from the Big Island for the privilege of playing in the state Division II games.”
The KIF schedule for Feb. 1 calls for the Kauai JV boys to square off against Kapaa starting at 10 a.m. followed by the varsity boys kicking off at 11:45 a.m. Although no play-in game is indicated, traditionally the next game starts at 1:30 p.m.
Kapaa boys JV, with its 3-1 win over Waimea Saturday leads the JV division with an undefeated record heading into its match against Kauai Thursday at Vidinha Stadium.
The Kapaa girls JV will face the undefeated Kauai High JV girls, Thursday starting at 5 p.m.
During its 10-0 shutout over Waimea, Rukiyah Walker netted a hat trick, scoring three goals, followed by Eryn Yamashiro and Kainani Moniz scoring two goals each. Courtney Bunao, Shaylia Pimental and Spencer Aguiar rounded out the scores.
Kainani’s sister, Kaiemi, normally on the defensive side of the arena for the varsity Warrior wahine, notched one of the Kapaa girls scores in its 2-0 win over the Menehune.
Cassie Wilson, playing a strong ball movement game against Island School Wednesday, netted the insurance goal in the win.
Daniel Alonzo, a key forward player for the undefeated Kapaa varsity boys, put the Warriors up 1-0 at the break against Waimea on Saturday.
The edge stood until the 70th minute when Johnny Joel found the net on a header of a Jonathan Paleka corner kick from the depths of the pocket, the ball rifling past the Waimea goalkeeper.
The Kapaa varsity girls and boys will face Kauai, Wednesday starting at 5 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium followed by the boys game starting at 7 p.m.
Waimea will host Island School at Hanapepe Stadium with the girls starting at 5 p.m. and the boys kicking off at 7 p.m.
