Whether it’s newlyweds or those marking their golden anniversary, it’s the same: There’s no place like Kauai.
Readers of 10Best and USA TODAY cast their votes over a four-week period and named Kauai as the “Best Anniversary Destination.” It’s the place where “romance comes alive with sunshine and beautiful scenery.”
That might be a no-brainer for those who live here, but little strikes up love like a spectacular sunset, wondrous waterfall and beautiful beaches.
Just ask Jack and Arlene Rossum. The couple from frigid Michigan is visiting this week and took a stroll at Kalapaki Beach on a 75-degree day.
It was their first visit here. When asked why they chose Kauai for their winter getaway, they said they were after four factors: beaches, sunshine, mountains and good restaurants to relax and unwind at day’s end.
The Garden Isle offered all those.
“The weather’s been great since we arrived,” Jack Rossum said.
“Kauai has been what we hoped,” added Arlene.
Here’s what 10Best and USA TODAY had to say:
“Couples who prefer romance paired with secret waterfalls come to Kauai to enjoy the unharnessed natural beauty of Hawaii’s oldest island. Kauai trades in high heels, nightclubs and shopping malls for hiking boots, pristine beaches and majestic cliffs. Its romance factor is undeniable. Just ask Elvis, who (fictionally) tied the knot here in his 1962 film Blue Hawaii.”
Such publicity is good for the economy because it attracts more visitors who spend money at local businesses.
“We have a suspicion that the planning half of many couples will tuck this list away for future reference … and they should,” organizers wrote.
Kauai topped some amazing places for the honor of “Best Anniversary Destination.”
