The Kauai High School girls soccer team received the No. 3 seed in the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Girls Soccer State Championships, Division II, the Hawaii High School Athletic Association announced Sunday on Oahu.
With its seed, the Kauai Red Raiders, securing the Kauai Interscholastic Federation division title, will open in the state quarterfinals Thursday against the winner of a match between PAC-5 and Radford which will take place Wednesday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on Oahu.
Kapaa High School, the runner-up in the KIF, will take the field at 3 p.m. Wednesday against Honokaa of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation at the Waipio soccer complex on Oahu.
The Honokaa Dragons on Thursday defeated EastPac, a team comprised of players from St. Joseph and Christian Liberty high schools on the Big Island. The EastPac loss would have sent the Big Island team to Kauai for a play-in game against Kapaa on Saturday.
The match never materialized when EastPac forfeited its game to send Kapaa to the Division II state championships.
The Mid Pacific Institute of Oahu earned the top seed for Division II followed by Hawaii Preparatory Academy getting the No. 2 seed, the HPA team seeded No. 1 in the BIIF playoffs which started last Tuesday.
Kauai got the No. 3 seed followed by Kalaheo High School on Oahu getting the No. 4 seed.
Other teams participating in the Division II field include Seabury Hall, Kamehameha School-Big Island, the BIIF Div. II No. 2 seed, Leilehua and Nanakuli. The Iolani Red Raiders earned the top seed in the Division I tournament, which takes place during the same time frame as Division II at the Waipio soccer complex.
Pearl City earned the No. 2 seed in Division I followed by Kamehameha Schools-Maui in the No. 3 seed spot followed by Konawaena earning the No. 4 seed.
