Joan Roughgarden, evolutionary biologist and author, will offer the first Malcolm Miner Memorial Lecture on “Jesus and Darwin” at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 4364 Hardy St. in Lihue.

Through her research, Roughgarden builds bridges of understanding between science and faith, says a press release.
“Drawing rich examples from nature including humanity, she invites a sense of awe in the wonder of creation while grounding her work in the rigor of scientific research,” the release said.
Roughgarden is Professor Emerita of biology at Stanford University and director of the Roughgarden Research Lab. She is the author of numerous articles and books.
The Malcolm Miner Memorial Lecture provides progressive, stimulating lectures, which connect faith, learning and life, the release said.
It was established in memory of the Rev. Malcolm Miner (1920-2012) who was priest associate of St. Michael’s.
