LIHUE — Kauai Community Federal Credit Union members donated more than $2,600 for the Kauai Drug Abuse Resistance Education program on Thursday.
Kauai Police Department Sgt. Mark Ozaki and officers John Mullineaux, Barry Deblake and Mark Stulpe accepted the contribution Thursday from Terri Kaniho and Tess Shimabukuro of the KCFCU.
“This come at the right time,” Ozaki said. “We just ran out of workbooks and this will enable us to get new workbooks for the D.A.R.E. program.”
Kaniho said the contribution came from the credit union members who dropped their loose change and others who contributed to special collection containers during National Youth Month in April.
“This represents our members’ contributions to the youth,” Kaniho said.
Ozaki said the D.A.R.E. program is being switched from the fifth-grade students to seventh-grade students.
